Rome in Limo has another great tour for you today! As with all our onshore tours, you can opt for our Private Tour, which will be for your family and friends only or our Shared Tour, which involves a total of 6 or 8 people, fellow cruisers who are on your ship and who wish to tour together. A great option for those who wish to meet new people and make friends!

Once your ship has arrived in the port,  your driver will greet you. He will have a sign with your name on so to be easily spotted. Your first stop will be at the Alcantara Gorges, where you can see a unique spectacle of ballast rock columns and waterfalls.  This is a place often overlooked by tourists but well known to locals who find it a great spot to cool off in the hot Sicilian summers!

We will continue through Francavilla, a small feudal town, to the unspoiled village of Castiglione di Sicilia, a typical hilltop village with houses perched on the slope. A pleasant stroll to the Greek Fortress will provide fantastic views of the Alcantara Valley below.

Visit the Central Square, paved with lava stone, and the 17th-century Church of Saint Anthony, then climb up a narrow road to find the 12th-century Church of Saint Peter and the adjoining monastery.

It will now be time to head to the Monti Sartorius, where you can enjoy a refreshing 35-40 minutes walk through the National Park. The name comes from the volcanologist, Sartorius Von Walterhausen, who first mapped the “button” like crater formation which characterizes this area.

Your last stop, before heading back to the port will be at the Grotta dei Ladroni – Cave of the Thieves – which was used to store winter snow to be sold as ice during the summer. Climbing down the stairs carved in the lava rock will give you easy access to the cave.
