Visit Mount Etna & Taormina From Your Ship in Catania

Once your ship has arrived in the port of Catania, your driver will greet you just of the gangway of your ship. He will have a sign with your name on so to be easily spotted. Your driver will be a professional Rome in Limo driver, fluent in English and
knowledgeable on the area you are to visit, ready to make sure you enjoy your day onshore to the max!

Sicily is the largest island in Italy and an authentic paradise filled with wonders of nature, starting from Mount Etna, the highest volcano in Europe. Here Polyphemus grazed his flocks before meeting Ulysses and the Titans made thunderbolts for Zeus!

If the ascent of Mount Etna is the highlight of your shore excursion from the port of Catania, then you can opt for the cable car which will take you fairly close to the top of the Volcano. From there you can easily reach the top on foot on one of the paths. Remember to wear comfortable walking shoes!

The walk up is not long, a couple of hours going and coming back, but it is a bit steep, plus you need to keep in mind that you’ll be above 2500 meters in elevation going up to almost 3000 meters, which means the air will be a little thin. So, even though you don’t need to be an athlete to face the trek, you still have to be quite fit to get to the top and back in about 2 hours and have time for the other sites!

Once you get back from Mount Etna your Rome in Limo driver will suggest where to have lunch. Just let him know whether you wish to have a typical Italian lunch in a family owned restaurant or just a quick bite on the way and he’ll take you to the venue which suits your needs.

After lunch, you’ll have time to explore Taormina before heading back to the ship. Walk through one of the city’s entrances, which were the gates that gave access to the fortified town in ancient times, up to the Clock Tower and the Piazza del Duomo. Have a pleasant stroll in the Public Gardens, which features a wide variety of trees and towers with arabesque designs.

Don’t forget to see the Arabian Necropolis and the Greek Theater, which is the second largest in Sicily. Second only to the Greek Theater of Siracuse. The Greek Theater was built in the third century B.C. and later renovated, in the second century A.D., by the Romans. It is still used today for Opera and Musical Performances.
